Worship Director:
Part Time - Salary $22,000-$25,000/year - 15-20 hours per week - Some remote work allowed
Objective:
To provide the primary music and facilitate worship for the congregation each Sunday; to operate and grow the music ministry at Harlem Baptist Church in accordance with our vision and values.
Requirements:
- Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a Biblical Christian walk, including solid personal Biblical theology.
- Sufficient experience in leading church worship, specifically Contemporary with a familiarity of Hymns and a multi-generationally aware worship style
- High degree of competence on their instrument (acoustic guitar preferred.)
- Knowledge of variety of church music, basic music theory, and ability to perform simple transpositions, etc., as needed for their instrument is a plus.
- They must have the ability to read chord charts/lead sheets.
- Capable knowledge of various production and technological needs for a contemporary worship service, including sound, in-ear monitors, Propresenter, etc. Knowledge of/ability to run and train on a digital sound board is HIGHLY preferred.
- Flexibility in tasks based on needs of the church at that time.
- Knowledge of Propresenter, a multitrack program, Planning Center (or similar software), and other necessary music/sound technology to run a contemporary-leaning worship service, etc.
- Ability/willingness to interact with a variety of people, to take direction and instruction from Pastor, and work with staff and team joyfully.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Become an active, serving member of Harlem Baptist Church
- Serve as a worship leader and communicator for the Music Ministry.
- Facilitate congregational singing and worship with their instrument.
- Invite, train, and empower members to be a part of the Music Ministry.
- Oversee all worship and musical elements for the church. These include, but are not limited to: praise band, praise choir, ensembles, pianist, other musicians/volunteers, Awana Choir…etc. This also includes sound/tech personnel/volunteers.
- Minister to, coach, and care for all volunteers in the music ministry and production of Sunday morning services (instrumentalists, choir members, Awana music leaders, sound and media technicians, etc.)
- Select music for congregational worship and communicate with accompanists on selected music in a timely manner via Planning Center Services (or similar software).
- Coordinate musicians according to their availability using Planning Center. Schedule who will be playing in each service for the entire month before the end of the previous month.
- Communicate reminders to worship team about rehearsals/worship plans etc.
- Prepare weekly worship bulletins and send to appropriate staff by Tuesday of each week.
- ·Willingness to continue to improve on instrument by consistent practice and preparation, taking lessons if needed, etc.
- Facilitate rehearsals and/or training for musicians and sound technicians.
- Help facilitate future technical improvements to our sound and worship team/equipment.
